Our music group “Parapetamenoi” was invited from August 22 to 26 for a seminar focused on rebetiko, as part of the Assos Music Camps organization. The teacher was Spiros Goumas a rebetiko master and Music instructor and George Makris, founder of the international rebetiko seminar-meeting in Skyros with the support of “Parapetamenοi”. The history of rebetiko song was presented in 5 sections: The Smyrna song and the arrival of refugees from Asia Minor, the Piraeus rebetiko and the “Fabulous Four of Piraeus”, the Dictatorship of Metaxas and the censorship, the 2nd W War, Occupation and Resistance and finally the post-war rebetiko.
During the evening of Saturday, August 27, a concert was given at Kaz Mountains-Adatepe Village after the Assos camp. In the concert took place “Parapetamenoi” with guests Muammer Ketencoğlu, İvi Dermancı and Cengiz Onural. The band played over two hours on the stage and performed samples of rebetiko. It was a very warm and friendly evening which the audience watched the concert with great interest.
