…Even our heart suffers and pains
is fully occupied and “drifted” by love
and with bouzouki and guitars
sings softly and sweet like a bird…

Announcement of the 16th international rebetiko seminar-meeting in Skyros Island, July 13-20, 2025

Dear friends,

The international seminar-meeting on rebetiko in Skyros started in 2009 and all these years has a basic volunteer support group, the musical group “Parapetamenoi”. At the same time, it is framed and supported by friends and all those who have participated all these years in its events. Since then, this voluntary effort takes place every year in the third week of July in Skyros Island with the cooperation of the Municipality of Skyros and Skyros Shipping Co. (SNE), the Cultural Association of Skyros “Anemoessa”, the Faltaits Museum and the local community. This year we announce the holding of the 16th international seminar-meeting on Rebetiko, 13-20 July 2025. The framework for organizing and implementing this voluntary initiative has been unchanged for 16 years to date.

The program includes:

•   Opening meeting with the participants in the atrium of the Faltaits Museum with a treat offer by the Municipality of Skyros on Sunday 13/7/2025 9 pm.

•   Four-hour daily morning rebetiko lessons from Monday to Friday 10-2 pm. in the hall of the club “Anemoessa” (former retirement home), located in Chora, Skyros.

•   Open to the public afternoon speeches in the same place.

•   Music nights in the picturesque taverns of the island.

•  Musical event with rebetika songs and dances at the square of Chora on Friday 18/7/2025 9 pm., in collaboration with the Municipality of Skyros, with the participants of the seminar and the dance department of “Anemoessa”.

•  Concert on Saturday 19/7/2025 12 pm. at “Anemoessa” with live streaming.

The seminar includes the rebetiko classical instruments i.e. bouzouki, folk guitar, tzoura and baglama. In order to participate, it is necessary to be able to play songs on one of the above instruments without having to read necessarily sheet music.  Because the number of participants is limited for better communication and teaching, absolute order of priority will be kept. We kindly ask you to contact us by phone or e-mail to register your participation in the seminar.

Skyros Shipping Company (www.sne.gr) kindly provides a 50% discount on tickets for participants in the courses and events of the seminar and their vehicles.
