…Even our heart suffers and pains
is fully occupied and “drifted” by love
and with bouzouki and guitars
sings softly and sweet like a bird…

“The journey of sounds through time”

The Cultural center dieleusis with the music group “Parapetamenoi”, the Association of Greek Arts and Evmaros Publications in collaboration with City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization represent the concert based on the unity of the Greek music (Byzantine/Chant music, traditional music and rebetiko) titled “The Journey of Sounds through Time” for the unity of Greek music from Byzantine/chanting art to traditional music and rebetiko that was given at the Cultural Center of the City of Athens Melina on 15/12/2024.

During the musical event, three distinct musical ensembles performed, offering successive presentations that highlight and demonstrate the unity of Greek music as a whole-spanning Byzantine chanting, traditional music, and rebetiko. Specifically, in the concerts participated a mixed (male and female) Byzantine choir led by choirmaster Tasos Fotopoulos; a Greek traditional music ensemble featuring traditional instruments, under the direction of by Kostas Fotopoulos; and the rebetiko music group Parapetamenoi, under the musical direction of Spiros Goumas and Dimitris Goumas. Music, as an important aspect of Ancient Greek literature, was based on the ancient modal system: Dorian, Phrygian, etc. As the Alexandrian mathematician Euclid reminds us with his statement Everything in the world is music. Nowadays, rebetiko and Byzantine Chant, since 2017 and 2019 respectively, are elements of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
